# Product Anatomy: Source to Running Notebook

Last Lab interprets code, data, documents, media, and the web natively. Traditional solutions flatten everything into plain text, which is where correctness quietly dies.

## The pipeline

Seven steps in three stages.

### Extract

1. **Ingest.** Accept the source in its native form and preserve its structure, references, and linked artifacts.
2. **Understand the source.** Interpret prose, equations, diagrams, code, video frames, and the relationships between them.

### Resolve

3. **Implement.** Translate the source into ordered, inspectable code cells that follow the original method.
4. **Resolve the system.** Locate dependencies and data, then configure the runtime environment around the implementation.

### Run

5. **Execute and validate.** Run the notebook on provisioned compute and check outputs, state, and cell order before delivery.
6. **Explain and cite.** Place explanations beside the code and trace important decisions back to the source.

### Package

7. **Package the lab.** Persist code, files, environment, and state as a lab you can reopen and run again.

## Notebook anatomy

Four layers, all present in every delivered lab:

- **Executable implementation.** Ordered Jupyter cells, runnable top to bottom.
- **Source-grounded narrative.** Method, assumptions, and decisions explained where they matter.
- **Resolved artifacts.** Datasets, checkpoints, repositories, and dependencies connected.
- **Verified outputs.** Executed cells and visible results, not a static code draft.

## Capabilities

- **Persistent compute.** CPU and a generous GPU free tier. Environment, files, and state survive between sessions.
- **Lens: Extracted.** Figures, tables, equations, datasets, referenced repos, and cited papers pulled out and collected, each linked to where it appeared.
- **Lens: Beyond.** Finds what your resource is missing and builds a path through it.
- **Axiom.** The assistant that already read your resource.
- **Marquee select.** Snip any region of a frame, document, or cell and act on it.
- **Quizzes.** Grounded in the source, each answer cited.
- **Flashcards.** Resource-grounded active recall with optional scoring.
- **Notes.** Generated reference notes plus a rich-text editor. LaTeX supported.
- **Mind maps.** Editable the moment you disagree.
- **Personalization.** Adapts to your preferences, interactions, and habits.
- **Search.** Across every lab, note, and conversation, down to the timestamp.
- **Real-time collaboration.** Shared sessions with access control.
- **Access controls.** Role-based permissions across users, workspaces, and notebooks, with admin dashboards.
- **Private deployment.** Custom infrastructure, VPC, private cloud, or on-premise.
